Fights and perils will be decided by rolling dice (where their number depends on your points in the required category), but you may also "burn" some of your cards to get guaranteed results or use / equip them for bonuses. The cards may contain equipment, one time bonuses or cards to harm another player's progress (like putting a "Peril" on a field your opponent will likely visit next turn or lower the income of one of his villages).
